Academic leaders from universities and engineering colleges across India recently came together at the Google office in Gurugram for a Google Leadership Summit on Higher Education, focusing on the role of technology in transforming India’s education ecosystem.
The summit brought together academic leaders, members of the Google leadership team and representatives of the higher education community for presentations, discussions and deliberations on the future of technology-enabled education. According to B. Mallesu, the event provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the changing requirements of universities and the role of technology in supporting institutional transformation.
A central theme of the discussions was digital transformation in higher education. Google is supporting this transformation through its Digital Campus on Google Cloud platform, which brings together technology, learning, skilling, teaching resources, hands-on cloud experience, laboratories, certifications and assessments.
The initiative reflects the growing importance of cloud technologies in the modernization of university infrastructure and academic programs. As institutions increasingly adopt digital systems, cloud platforms can support not only technology education but also broader institutional requirements related to teaching, learning and skills development.
The summit also highlighted the importance of bringing industry and academia closer together. Universities and engineering colleges are increasingly looking to technology companies for access to contemporary tools, industry knowledge, certifications and practical learning opportunities that can complement traditional academic programs.
According to the announcement, B. Mallesu’s organization is a Google-authorized partner working with more than 180 universities and engineering colleges across India. The partnership focuses on exploring Google collaboration opportunities for higher education institutions.
The participation of academic leaders from institutions across the country reflects the increasing interest among universities in technology-led initiatives. Areas such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital learning and industry-aligned skilling are becoming increasingly relevant as institutions seek to prepare students for a rapidly changing employment landscape.
The summit also brought attention to the evolving role of university leadership in technology adoption. Digital transformation requires coordination across academic departments, technology teams, placement functions and institutional leadership. Industry forums can provide university decision-makers with insights into available technologies and potential models for implementation.
For students, the move toward digitally enabled campuses can create greater opportunities for hands-on learning and exposure to technologies used in professional environments. For faculty members, access to structured technology and skilling platforms can support the development of new teaching and learning approaches.
The Gurugram summit therefore served as a platform for conversations around digital campuses, cloud technology, teaching, skilling and industry–academia collaboration.
As Indian higher education institutions continue to adapt to technological change, partnerships between universities and technology organizations are becoming an increasingly visible part of the transformation process. The Google Leadership Summit represents one such forum where academic and technology leaders could discuss how digital infrastructure and industry-supported learning can contribute to the future of higher education in India.
