Christ University has strengthened its focus on artificial intelligence education and innovation with the establishment of an AI Center of Excellence (AI CoE) in collaboration with Google.
The initiative was announced following a collaboration event held on August 7 at the Christ University campus in Bengaluru. The AI Center of Excellence is designed to provide students, faculty members, researchers and IT administrators with access to Gemini Enterprise Education, creating opportunities for practical learning and experimentation with emerging artificial intelligence technologies.
The initiative is intended to support the growing demand for hands-on AI capabilities within higher education. Through access to advanced AI tools, members of the university community can explore applications across Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI and Agentic AI, moving beyond theoretical learning toward practical implementation.
For students, the AI CoE can support project development, coding, application building and experimentation with AI-powered solutions. Such access can enable learners to explore how AI technologies can be applied to real-world challenges and academic projects.
Faculty members and researchers can also use the AI ecosystem to support research activities, technical experimentation and the development of new applications. For IT administrators, the collaboration provides an institutional framework for supporting the adoption and management of AI technologies across the campus.
The partnership reflects the increasing role of industry–academia collaboration in preparing higher education institutions for an AI-driven technology landscape. Universities across India are increasingly establishing AI laboratories, Centers of Excellence and specialized programs to help students and faculty gain exposure to rapidly evolving technologies.
The collaboration is being supported by a Google-authorized partner that, according to the announcement, works with more than 180 universities and engineering colleges across India. The partner’s broader university engagement includes institutions such as KL University, GITAM, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, RV University, CMR University, REVA University and several other higher education institutions.
The development at Christ University also aligns with the emerging concept of the AI-first university, in which artificial intelligence becomes integrated into teaching, research, projects and institutional technology infrastructure rather than being treated only as a specialized academic subject.
With Generative AI and Agentic AI rapidly becoming part of professional and technical environments, initiatives such as the AI CoE provide universities with a structured way to expose students and faculty to contemporary AI platforms and workflows.
The collaboration therefore represents a broader shift in Indian higher education toward experiential AI learning, where students can learn, build, code, research and experiment using industry-supported technologies.
As universities continue to develop their AI capabilities, the Christ University–Google collaboration adds another example of how industry partnerships are helping institutions build infrastructure and learning environments around the next generation of artificial intelligence.
